Why am I writing this book?
Namaste dear bitcoiners,
I started this page thinking I would keep it short and simple. But then where’s the fun in that?
It is me thinking out loud.
If you are looking for a clean pitch, this is not it.
If you want to see the confusion and the intent behind the book, you are in the right place.
There are 2 main reasons I am writing this book –
1 – I’m still figuring out where I fit in the Bitcoin ecosystem. I believe that this book will be Pandora’s box of opportunities.
2 – many of us dream of a hyperbitcoinized world, though it still feels distant today.I hope the on-the-ground stories I share ignite conversations that move us one step closer to that dream.
Let’s dive into each one of them.
1 – It was a full-moon night in August 2021 when a friend called and casually suggested that I travel the world on Bitcoin. I took the bait. I read The Bitcoin Standard and hit the road with nothing more than a wallet filled with sats and faith that Bitcoiners are kind. The journey ended in December 2023.Two years and two months later, it was done.
And then came the silence.
I didn’t know what to do with my life. I knew I didn’t want to keep travelling. I called a few people looking for work. Nothing landed. I attended a few conferences in 2024. No opportunities showed up. I found myself stuck in what felt like an existential whirlpool.
Around that time, I remembered a line from Vusi, a South African speaker I had heard back in June 2022 in Lusaka during the Run With Bitcoin journey:
“Look into your hindsight so you can gain insight, and use that insight to build your foresight. It’s time to build a kingdom.”
In July 2024, I moved to the foothills of the Himalayan mountains and began writing this book.I switched from running to yoga. From drinking to meditation. From socialising to solitude. The sound of typing and the mountains became my nest. I learned that it was time to understand who I am before choosing what comes next. Who am I ?
As a friend once told me, only when the outward journey ends does the inward journey begin.
This book slowed me down. Writing in English, my second language, isn’t easy, and keeping my ass in one chair for hours was never my skill. Breathe.
My intent is simple.
Great book or no book.
As of December 31st, 2025, it has been 18 months since I started writing. I still have another 4 to 6 months to go before the book reaches the hands of leaders. After all, all leaders are readers. Aren’t they?
2 – There is only so much a camera can capture, and at times the camera intrudes on someone’s privacy. A lot more happens behind the scenes, behind the camera. Certain emotions and certain moments cannot be captured, or are simply better lived in the moment.
Many of those moments are in this book. Living on bitcoin. Talking to people about bitcoin. Explaining it to strangers with real problems. These stories show what the challenges actually look like out there in the world, and also how lucky many of us are, even though we crib a lot on Twitter. I do it too.
I once read that we are keyboard warriors. Now these keyboard warriors have money and time. That combination can bring real change. I feel a moral responsibility to share this lived experience as it happened while trying to live on bitcoin. These moments are what make us human in this computerized, digitized world we live in today.
If this resonates, you’re already part of the journey.
If you’d like to read a sample chapter, I’m happy to share it.
If you believe this story deserves to exist, you can support the book’s creation in whatever way your gut says. Feedback, sats, or blessings all count.
And if nothing else, thank you for reading this far. That alone means something.
Happy New Year.
See you in 2026.
Hugs & Blessings,
Paco
